Route 3 in North Bergen remains closed and crews remain on the scene hours after a freight train derailed Tuesday afternoon.

There were no injuries, but 11 CSX freight cars derailed, and one spilled highly flammable ethyl acetate, according to North Bergen public safety officials. Fire crews had to douse the flammable liquid - used in nail polish remover - with water to dilute it before the scene could be cleared.

CSX officials claim that no spill occurred.

Cranes were brought in to lift the train back onto the tracks to be taken away. Public safety officials said they expected Route 3 to reopen in time for the Wednesday morning commute.

Public safety officials said there is no health risk to the general public. The derailment did not impact NJ Transit trains.

“It's private property," said North Bergen Public Safety Commissioner Allen Pascual. "They've been there for years and years, but yeah, it's a relief. It's an absolute relief that it's not a transit train. There's no casualty, there's no injuries, there's no impact, there's no crash that we can see."

CSX is investigating the cause.
