Many drivers on the Turnpike in East Rutherford are wondering where the MetLife Stadium logo went.

The giant letters are now covered ahead of the FIFA 2026 World Cup as New Jersey prepares.

FIFA refers to the stadium as "New York New Jersey Stadium."

Multiple reports say it's because FIFA requires participating stadiums to remove pre-existing branding during the World Cup. The organization does not allow venues with corporate-sponsored names or logos.

Those reports note that this long-standing policy protects FIFA's own brands and the exclusive rights of its sponsors, so stadiums use generic city or regional names when hosting World Cup games.

The stadium will host eight matches during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with the first on June 13 and the final on July 19.

MetLife Stadium is one of the largest in the NFL, with a capacity of 82,500. It has hosted over 600 major events and 3,000 special events, including the first outdoor, cold-weather Super Bowl XLVIII in 2014.
