Brentwood house fire leaves one person displaced

A Saturday morning car fire spread to the home on Whipple Street, causing significant damage, according to fire officials.

A Saturday morning structure fire in Brentwood displaced one person, officials said.

One female occupant escaped the Whipple Street home safely after the fire started around 7:30 a.m. The blaze began as a car fire which then spread to the home, according to fire officials.

The fire was placed under control at 9:06 a.m., authorities said.

Investigators on scene said the homeowner woke up and smelled smoke.

The Red Cross is on scene assisting.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Brentwood fire marshal and the Suffolk County Police Arson Squad.
